Organist/Accompanist Crestwood United Methodist Church
Overview: The Organist/Accompanist serves as the primary instrumentalist for the 11:11 traditional
worship service and the accompanist for the chancel choir under the leadership of the Director of Music
Ministries and the Staff Parish Relations Committee. Additionally, the organist/accompanist performs at
special services throughout the year, funerals if needed, and occasionally in our 9:01 contemporary
service.
Duties:
- Accompany congregational singing, perform preludes and postludes, accompany chancel choir
anthems on weekly basis.
- Accompany chancel choir for Wednesday rehearsal from 6:30 to 7:45 pm and Sunday from
10:45 to 11:00 am.
- Accompany Christmas Cantata rehearsals on Sunday afternoons from mid-October through mid-
December.
- Play for 6:00 PM and 11:00 PM Christmas Eve Candlelight Services.
- Two or three times a year, play piano or organ for our 9:01 contemporary service or do old
fashioned hymn sings in both morning services.
- Play for funerals if requested.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as an assistant/teammate of the music minister as he, the worship planning team, and
worship committee create services that reveal God and what He is doing.
- Provide tasteful, beautiful, majestic, and excellent organ/piano music to help congregants
experience the person of Jesus Christ and take their next steps of faith.
- Be a solid choral accompanist by being ready to play accompaniment parts well when called
upon, giving choir their notes, accompanying warm-ups, pointing out aspects of the choral parts
or anthems in general if comfortable, and helping choir director stay on time.
Qualities:
- Humble, flexible, a team player, excellent organist and pianist, an excellent sight reader. Not
territorial, but willing and glad to let church members use their keyboard gifts to perform and
accompany at the direction of music minister on occasion.
What to expect:
- Music and other resources will be provided with sufficient preparation time prior to services and
rehearsals.
- Steiner-Reck Co. 33 rank, two manual and pedal pipe organ and Yamaha full grand piano.
- A fun, loving community in which to lead worship and grow as a musician.
- $14-16k per year salary on 10hr/week (Sunday morning, 10 AM to noon, Wednesday 6 to 8 PM,
6 hr personal preparation on sanctuary organ or other)
