Job Description:

Summary: Crestwood United Methodist Church (CUMC) is seeking an individual with the energy and passion for Children’s and Family Ministry. This Minister must have the knowledge and skills to disciple children and their families towards a life of understanding and serving Christ. This individual will plan, supervise and/or conduct a comprehensive ministry for children and families (children pre-K through elementary school and their families) at CUMC. This individual will work to grow Children’s Sunday School and a family small group ministry.   This Minister will work with the CUMC Senior Pastor, Ministry Team, Council on Ministries and specifically the Children’s Council and Discipleship Committees to develop and integrate the Children’s and Family Ministry program into the CUMC Strategic Plan and the Church’s Ministerial Program. This is a full time salaried position.



  • Directs Sunday Children’s worship service at CUMC’s 11:00 service.   This includes presenting a children’s moment during the worship service and organizing, supervising and conducting Children’s chapel.
  • Is the CUMC staff representative to the Children’s Council. Facilitates the work of the Council and works with it to:
    • Develop and conduct children’s Sunday School.
    • Conduct Wednesday night children’s and family programming.
    • Coordinate and conduct CUMC’s week long Vacation Bible School. (Note: also works with the Minister of Music to integrate the Children’s’ Summer Music Camp with VBS.)
    • Conduct special Children’s and family events such as:
      • Children’s Christmas Pageant
      • Children’s Easter Egg hunt
      • Father Daughter dance
      • Harvestival/Trunk or Treat
      • Children’s activities on Kavanaugh Sunday
    • Provides staff oversight of:
      • Sunday morning and Wednesday evening nursery staff
      • Acolyte training
    • Provides Staff supervision of the community’s Upward Basketball program. Helps coordinate the participation of other community Churches.  
    • Develops a training program for Children’s and Family Ministry volunteers. Provides Safe Sanctuaries leadership and training for all volunteers.
    • Participates in the CUMC Council on Ministries
    • Assists the Discipleship Committee in developing and expanding programs for families (Sunday School, small groups, parenting, etc)
    • Assists the Senior Pastor, as required, in the conduct of Sunday worship services
