Women's Ministries

Crestwood United Methodist Women’s Groups

The United Methodist Women is an organization of women in the church and community that participate in missions and is a supportive fellowship.  There are three circles that meet on different days to give women the opportunity to attend meetings that best meet their schedule.  All women are invited to attend any circle.  Support for missions and ministry work is generated through the sale of Mother’s Day Roses, desserts at the annual Fish Fry, and from various projects of each circle.

Faith and Service Circle

Faith and Service meets at 10:30 AM on the first Wednesday of each month in Room 105/106 of the Educational Building.  The meetings consist of a business portion, program or project, and are then followed by a potluck lunch.  Programs may include a review of a book from the Reading Program, inspirational devotional, reading from our mission magazine, or working on a project such as making Christmas Stockings for the Dream Factory, making inspirational cards for patients at a local hospital, and collecting items for the Red Cross.  In 2010 we donated shoes to help raise funds for the Edge Outreach water purification project.  As a special treat, we entertain the Senior Citizens of the Powell Center in Anchorage in June and in September we visit them with a program and fellowship. For more information contact Betsy Price at 785-4228.

Mary Louise Guild

The Mary Louise Guild meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00PM.  Meetings are generally held in the Kilgus House, but occasionally we will meet in a member’s home.  All ages of women are invited to attend.  Our meetings include a brief business meeting, program or project, followed by dessert.  We are a mission focused group of women involved in a variety of projects that support local and regional mission work such as collecting items for the McCauley House (women’s transitional home), making needed kits for UMCOR, hosting the Diamond Jubilee Luncheon for our senior citizens, and staying informed through guest speakers and book reviews from the UMW Reading Program.  Each year our funds are used to help support some of the following missions: the Portland Center, Henderson Settlement, Versailles Children’s Home, Lighthouse Ministries, Red Bird Mission, South Oldham Interchurch Council, CUMC Emergency Fund and Wesley Manor.  For more information contact Bobbie Stoess at 241-1088.

The Mary Louise Guild sponsors our Diamond Jubilee annually. This special luncheon celebrates those individuals who have reached their 75th birthday (or admit to it anyway) and their spouses. A luncheon is served, followed by entertainment. A good time is the one constant on the menu! For pictures from this year's Jubilee, click here:  Diamond Jubilee Gallery

Grace and Unity

Grace and Unity is a group of moms with kids ranging from Middle School to out of College.  We meet every other month (usually the first Tuesday) and are very service oriented.  Our service projects usually do not involve extra time outside of our meeting.  We pick projects that make an impact but can be finished in an hour or two.  In the past year, we participated in several local mission projects, including painting and minor maintenance for our preschool, putting together care kits, and helping with Christmas poinsettias that were delivered to Shut-ins.  For more information contact Karen Carter at Karen@crestwoodmethodist.com.

Women's Sewing Ministry

The sewing ministry has been very busy!  This group meets every Wednesday morning of the month except the 1st Wednesday.   We meet at the Kilgus House beginning at 9:30 AM. We take a break for lunch and then work until about 2 PM. This is a list of items we have made or are making: baby/children's quilts for very sick infants/children, turbans for cancer patients, premature baby gowns for christenings and burials, mastectomy pillows and pillowcases for cancer patients, pillowcase dresses and boy shorts for Africa,  quilts for Versailles Children's Home, 'pew pals' for our children to play with during worship in the sanctuary, and quilts for homeless individuals.  Please contact Joanne Pitchford 222-7456 or Ann Whitfield 412-7834 for more information.
