PURPOSE: TO HELP THE UNITED METHODSIT WOMEN SEWING MINISTRY MAKE
MORE CLOTH DIAPERS FOR ORPHANS IN ORPHANAGES. DISPOSABLE DIAPERS ARE NOT
PRACTICAL IN HAITI DUE TO LACK OF SUITABLE LAND FOR LANDFILLS AND
POSSIBLY OF CONTAMINATING WATER SUPPLIES WITH CHOLERA.
On May 14th, we came together to make
a difference to an infant who is in an orphanage because the parents are
dead or are unable to feed him or her and keep it safe from cholera,
exposure to heat and sun and rain due to inadequate housing, or unresolved
problems due to the 2010 earthquake or political unrest. Brian Williams of Joy of Hope Ministries wrote on December 29, 2011 that they had received the cloth reusale diapers and they were going to Haiti. We have no way of shipping effectively so all our larger or bulkier items have to be hand carried. The Mangine family is starting a furlough soon and they will have the diapers with them in their luggage for their return trip. This about 50 of the diapers the UMW Sewing Ministry made in the summer of 2011. The other 50 went to Guatamala, and we do not have confirmation about those. Please contact Joanne Pitchford at 222-7456, for more information. THE
UMW SEWING MINISTRY IS AN OUTREACH MINISTRY AND IS AN EXTENSION OF THE
ENTIRE CONGREGATION AS YOU DONATE MATERIALS, TIME, PRAYERS TO OUR EFFORTS TO
REACH PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN HIT WITH TRAUMATIC EVENTS AND MEDICAL
PROBLEMS. WE RECEIVE NO FINANCES FROM THE CHURCH BUDGET OR THE UMW. |
